Our guide to Broome and surrounds!
Broome is the gateway to the wild Kimberley and a place where red earth collides with turquoise ocean. It’s relaxed, remote, and full of natural wonders.
Here’s everything you need to know before you go.
A few things to note:
Getting around: A car is a must. A 4WD will take you further.
Best time to visit: June–August (dry season). Clear skies + accessible roads.
Book ahead: Peak season = limited availability. Plan accommodation early.
Must See Spots
Cable Beach
Iconic white sand, camel rides, epic sunsets. You can 4WD on the beach — just keep an eye on the tides.
Gantheaume Point
Our favourite spot in Broome. Red cliffs, hidden rock pools, and some serious natural drama. Time your visit with a high spring tide (9m+) to catch the Insta-famous round pool.
Coconut Wells
A 30-min drive north. Tide-dependent rock pools + the chance to float through a sand dune lagoon during a spring tide (bring a pool noodle). Magical and local-loved.
Roebuck Bay
Where fiery red earth meets pastel blue water. Best seen at high tide. Head past the Broome Bird Observatory and you’ll find a surreal scene of mangroves + swirls of colour. Birdlife is abundant — keep your eyes peeled (and watch for crocs).
Broome Markets
The regular Courthouse Markets run on Saturday mornings, Thursday night markets also run every week at the Town Beach Precinct from June to September, and select nights during the Staircase to the Moon between April and October.
Easy Day Trips
Kooljaman (Cape Leveque) & The Dampier Peninsula
The ultimate red-pindan-meets-turquoise-water moment.
Stop at:
Beagle Bay (pearl shell church)
Lombadina & Middle Lagoon (local culture + beach camping)
Kooljaman (remote paradise at Cape Leveque)
Plenty of cultural + nature-based tours: fishing, mud crabbing, whale watching, bush food walks. Don’t miss the hatchery at One Arm Point + Cygnet Bay pearl farm.
Horizontal Falls
Dubbed “one of the greatest natural wonders of the world” by David Attenborough. This tidal phenomenon in the Buccaneer Archipelago is only accessible by boat or scenic flight — and totally worth the splurge.
Eco Beach
Just 2 hours south of Broome, this eco-resort offers barefoot luxury with unreal views. Spend the day walking along deserted beaches, paddle boarding, joining a yoga class, or just soaking it all in. Laid-back, low-impact, and incredibly beautiful.
